I'm coming out of the closet...

This is a post that might send some of my friends to jump-ship as soon as they finish reading it.  No, I'm not pulling a Ray Boltz and saying that God made me gay.  Relax, I'm straight and love my wife in a very sexual way.  Wink, wink.  Anyway, this post is going to be political.

Now that I've lost half of my audience, let me tell you what is on my mind.

I am going to vote for Barack Obama in November.  I have read many blogs of people that I really look up to and some that I don't agree with and have come to this conclusion on my own.  I support Barack and what he is trying to do.  I have issues with the Republican party and because I am a christian it doesn't mean I have to be a Republican.  There are so many things that are broken in both parties, that is obvious.  The thing that I like about Barack, over my extensive research, is that he stands for people.  Not just the average American but for people who are suffering all over the world.  It's time for us to take a stand and fight for a cause that is greater than ourselves.  John McCain actually said that. (He's a neat guy to and I respect him greatly. Kudos on the woman VP nominee as well.)

There are so many ideas running through my head at this moment on what kind of responses I will receive for this post.  The thing is, you don't have to agree with me.  It's ok that we disagree on political issues.

Here is one thing you can't disagree with.  (I guess you can if you want.)  I believe Jesus would be crucified faster today than He was back in times of old.  I say that because Jesus came and challenged everything they (we) knew with truth.  Please don't think I am calling Barack Obama Jesus or "the savior" or anything like that, but I am saying that he does challenge what I think a President should be like or look like.  It almost makes me uncomfortable because he is black and has a "scary" name.  But I like it.

These are not the only reasons I am voting for him.  I have my reasons.  You don't have to vote for him and next time you see me I promise I won't be wearing a "Vote for Change" shirt.  I'm not going to try to talk you into anything but it feels damn good to get this off my chest.  Thanks for listening....

Note:  I do realize there is a HUGE issue with the "homosexual" and "abortion" topics.  These have been beat to death in my opinion.  The democratic party and my reasons to join them does not come down to two controversial issues.  Feel free to leave comments but please, do not be argumentative and ugly.  Thanks. -ricky g

Ricky, I'm not going to go into alot of depth here, because honestly it won't do any good. I'll tell you just like I told you about leaving the church. I don't care. I don't care if you leave the church, i don't care if you vote for Barack. I don't care if you are Liberal. It doesn't matter if you have decided to vote for "Snoopy." What matters is that you write these blogs hoping to piss people off and to get rude responses. You want to be different, Even if it is wrong, and that is why you do these things. So thats all I'm going to say, because anything else would just be what you want.

On Second thought...

I do care... I care that you are leaving the church, because I want you there, but I don't think it is the right place for you. But I still don't care who you are voting for. And I disagree with what you said about Jesus being crucified faster now. Thats crap and you know it. Just because people have treated you the way that you want to be treated doesn't mean that we would treat Jesus the same way. Because Jesus would speak "TRUTH."

I know these probably come across a little harsh, but I still love you. Just don't agree with who you have become. I still love you though!

Hey Ricky,

I just wanted to say that although I will be voting for McCain this year :), I will tell you, I applaud the amount of thought and prayer I know went into your decision. There are a LOT of us out there that are right where you are. Thanks for the gutsy move and keep pressing in. You're not alone.

Blessings!

Thanks for the sweet comment Sandy! Hope all is well with Burn Amarillo. I still pray for you guys.

Domine- Thanks for speaking up. It's ok that you disagree with me. I did ot, however, post this to "piss" anyone one off. I have received many questions on who I was going to vote for so i just thought I owuld share my opinion. There is more to life than making people mad or uncomfortable. Just thought I would answer some people's questions. Thanks for the input!

I don't know what to say. I was amazingly shocked when you left the church. But apparently you can't seem to find your nitch in any church seeing as how you have been to so many. Please don't take that as a rude comment, but is it something the church is doing or something you can't seem to get over in your life? No there is no church out there that is going to be perfect. WE ARE ALL HUMAN and make our mistakes. Taking a quote from Pastor Randy, "If you just look at the bad in your wife, you will soon be divorced. The same is with the Church. If you only look at what bothers you and the bad in people, than soon you will be divorced from the church." I don't know why you left, but I do know that it has been an issue with your family for a while. I am sorry to lose such a good leader in our church and I truely enjoyed Home group with you all.
As far as your vote for Obama, that is your choice. And we will see what happens. I too have doen my research and can find nothing, and I mean nothing that I like about the guy. Even Stetson doesn't like him. When he comes on tv Stetson says, "Look, he's a bad man." And if you ask him why he thinks that, he will tell you that he doesn't like him, that he scares him. Now, me or my husband have said nothing about him around Stetson. This is coming straight from the innocence of a child. But like I said, you are entitle to your opinion. I just hope you are wrong and that he doesn't get elected.
God Bless you wherever you may go and in whatever you may do!
BTW~Stetson really misses Elijah and asks about him every Sunday.

This is Nick....Well let me first establish credibility by saying I know he's not a Muslim, I DON'T believe he is the anti christ, and i don't care that he is black. you know me, but still:) This subject is very important to me because I have leaned dem. every since I was old enough to vote, that is, until Barack Obama. To be honest with you, I didn't think you even hinted at any real reason to vote for him outside of image, and if you do have any actual policy reasons i would love to debate with you. But here is my problem i have with Obama. He IS all image. Yes he is well spoken, good looking, and young, but if you scratch even a little below the surface you find and angry FAR left liberal, who thinks people are too stupid live there own lives. His socialist ideals are misguided and destructive. Raising taxes on the "rich" and large corporations hurts who? com on it's basic economics. every one! when he says that 95% of americans will recieve a tax cut under his presidency he LIES. he wants to spend billions upon billions of dollars expanding the government. Don't think Im just against you here, Im not. and invite me to serve with you anytime, im there, but it is not the governments job to legislate service. I HAVE done my research, and don't have time or space to go into it here but, if you want some interesting info look at socialized health care in other countries and in Massachusetts. You will find its monumental failure. Look where income re-distribution has made leaders rich and countries poor. Compare Obamas policy to the constitution. And I don't care what anyone says, If you have the power to set a country free you have also the responsibility. Obama is a lot of things, my friend, but a man of the people he is not. Oh, and tell me, historically...what happens to a government when it gets too big?

I dono Ricky, I just don't know. I knew that your ideals would probably match up with Obama, so its not really a surprise to me. Really Im just indifferent. Im gonna ahve to disagree with 2 of you statements though. I don't feel that Obama stands for the average American. I feel that I'm probably an average American from an average American family; yet I don't feel like he has my interests in mind. That being said, I don't think McCain is either. I've ran the numbers on both and neither are spectacular to me. So I'm probably not going to vote for either one. Probably Huckabee or something. The second thing you said that we should stand for something greater than ourselves. I do think we should. But it should be Jesus and not any imitators. Anyways, give me a call sometime... I gots some gnew old theology stuffs.
Much Love'

Ricky, I know that you are a Christian but I do not see how any Christian could vote for Obama, just based on his views of abortion. You know that abortion is against God so how can you support anyone who is for abortion, even late term abortion? Yes the Republican Party has not down a good job of late, but in this case, I see no alternative. Obama is ready to take away your freedom, including your religious freedoms. He is a "world" citizen and not interested in individual rights. He is interested in taking away the things that we have worked hard all of our lives to build. He says is for poor people. Do not be so naive to believe this is true. If he was, he wouldn't live the lavish life that he does. He would give up all of his worldly riches and truely follow in Christ's footsteps. Do not drink the Kool aid but stay true to your faith. Remain in Scripture and find solace in it.
